How to get a Residency card or “carte de séjour”
The Principality of Monaco, the second smallest country in the world, lies between Italy and France at the Mediterranean Sea coast of the Côte d'Azur. Aside from its attractiveness in terms of quality of life, due to its geographical position, Monaco benefits from major advantages to host High Net Worth Individuals and Investors, such as a unique economic, legal and fiscal environment, a high level personal security, a political stability and a safe, reliable and efficient infrastructure.
• Analysis of complex corporate matters and design of the most efficient course of action
• Representation of family interest in negotiations
The government actively and strongly encourages natural and legal persons to relocate to Monaco by obtaining Monaco residency.
Principle Any foreigner who is at least 16 years of age and wishes to reside in Monaco for more than three months per year or move to the country must file in for a resident permit before the Monegasque authorities. Once an application for a residence permit has been submitted, a "temporary" card valid for one year may be issued, for which there are no particular length of residency requirements. Nationals from the European Economic Area (including Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Iceland and Andorra) must be holders of a valid national identity card or passport in order to set the residency procedure in process. Nationals from other countries (including United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland) must be holders of a type-D visa enabling them to move to Monaco, before initiating the procedure of requesting a residence permit. Applicants should therefore apply for a long-stay visa (type D) for Monaco through the French Consulate closest to their most recent place of residence.
Conditions
The supporting evidence and documentation for foreigners wishing to move to Monaco may vary according to the applicant’s situation and nationality. At all events, however, applicants must prove that they have:
- An accommodation in Monaco which is large enough to accommodate the applicant and his family by owning or renting a house or apartment or by being the director or unit holder of a company which owns a house or apartment or by staying with a close relative, spouse, or partner with whom the applicant is living as a couple.
- Sufficient financial resources through the medium of a salary or a professional income (through an independent commercial activity or a company) or sufficient savings (the sum that is judged sufficient depends on the Monegasque Bank providing the reference) or support by a relative, spouse or partner.
- A good character, by means of a criminal record copy or equivalent issued by the competent authorities of the last country or two countries in which the applicant have resided in the five past years prior to the date of the application.
